biography.
Born in Louisville, Kentucky in Room 1616 on January 19, 1981 in the Louisville Marriot Hotel, Rhys Eckharte's life already started off with a bang. Son to Louisville socialite Suzanne Brand and Soap-opera actor Victor Eckharte, Rhys was bit with the celebrity bug early on. When Rhys was 15, he joined his father on his soap-opera, The Young And The Restless, playing a young Billy Abbott, one of the more famous actors to play the role to this day. His father, who plays Billy's older brother Jack Abbott, had an interesting relationship on the set and off. Despite being born in Louisville, Kentucky, Rhys and his family never had one place they called home: when Rhys was 17, his parents divorced, and his mother went back to Louisville where her old money meant something, and his father stayed in Los Angeles, buying a mansion near where he films the soap opera. While Victor Eckharte found success in the soap-opera business, Rhys found he was looking for something more. He took acting lessons and moved out to New York, where he studied at NYU for a short while before getting his big break in She's All That when he was 18 years old. Roles in that teen movie brought him the lead roles in 10 Things I Hate About You and Romeo + Juliet, in which he had started to date co-star Scout Lang. Soon Rhys' name was now hand in hand with "teenage heartthrob" and for some reason, he liked it. After his relationship with Scout ended, he met EX-GIRLFRIEND #2 while filming  10 Things I Hate About You, Rhys liking the modern day "Taming of the Shrew" and took the part a bit too seriously, ending up dating his co-star. The relationship ended as soon as filming wrapped, and while they tried to make it work, Rhys ended up bored. It wasn't anything against her, it was just how Rhys was. In a way, he was like his father, a womanizer, only he didn't realize it yet.

While the teenage heartthrob name was nice for a bit, Rhys always wanted to get more into the films that he wanted to do. When his agent was telling him about a film another one of his clients was the lead in, Rhys begged to be a part of the film too. The film was Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind. And while he wasn't the lead character, he stayed around on set, learning all he could from the actors and the director, and hung around with the screenwriter, learning all that he could. Falling in love with the atmosphere on the indie movie set lead him to audition for the role of Andrew Largeman in 2004's Garden State. He became completely immersed in the character and the surroundings, falling in love with New Jersey to the point that he lived there for nine months after filming wrapped. He started to fall in love with his characters, become them. But he made sure he never lost himself completely, but he was working to make sure he wasn't just Rhys the heartthrob, but Rhys the respected actor. But still the womanizer, as he dated Sarah MacDowell and EX-GIRLFRIEND #4 in the span of a year and a half. But soon Rhys found he was able to commit to one person, once he found her.

He met Celeste D'Anconia on the set of Closer in 2005. Rhys had just moved back to New York full time after completing The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou, and the two clicked on set. The chemistry between the two of them was seen on and off screen, as Rhys soon found himself breaking all his own rules and taking Celeste out on very public dates, wanting to give her the world. In a way, Rhys was a romantic, another thing he grabbed from his father, and seemed to know how to say the right things. The couple continued to work and play together, both starring in Lars and the Real Girl in 2007, but things started to go downhill once filming wrapped. Rhys doesn't talk about how the relationship ended, and no one is quite sure if the two of them are on good terms or not. Rhys has never talked about their relationship in public, and neither has she, but rumor has it, Rhys isn't quite over her. Though this is only a rumor. Since then, Rhys took on various roles, and continued to date various women, though never settled down. Acting wise, he is well known for his role in Showtime's "Dexter", playing the lovable serial killer, Dexter Morgan, a far cry from his teen heartthrob days. Those who knew about it also knew to look for Rhys as Captain Hammer in the webseries Dr. Horrible's Sing-Along Blog. When he's not working on the show, Rhys tries to get some movies in, and will be seen as Wade Wilson in X-Men Origins: Wolverine, and is currently filming Burn After Reading, a Coen brothers movie.
